Abattoir
2D stop motion, January 2024
Abattoir is a 2D stop motion animation piece inspired by the hoarding habits of my great-grandfather and similar tendencies I recognize in myself.
Sourced from vintage issues of National Geographic, the images in Abattoir’s foreground relate to excess, desire, predation, compulsion, and infestation, while the cyclic series of background images were chosen to create a sense of disorientation, obsessiveness, and decay. The accompanying audio serves as a more calming contrast to the constant stream of images, anchoring viewers and allowing them to focus on the animation while also drawing (and trapping) them into a perpetual cycle of manic overindulgence like moths to a flame.
